Annotating documents allows you to leave detailed feedback directly in the students’ submitted PDF assignment. It allows you to highlight, draw lines, boxes, circles, write text and more, without the additional steps and time of downloading, annotating, then re-uploading assignments.

Step 1: Accessing the Assignment PDF

  1. Locate the assignment you want to annotate.
  2. Click the assignment name to open the assignment.
  3. Click “View all submissions”.
  4. Identify a student’s work to grade.
  5. Select “Grade”.

Selecting “Grade” will open the PDF view.

Exploring the Annotation Toolbar

The toolbar features, from the left to right.

  1. Page Toggle (the box that indicates “page 1 of 2”): The toggle is used to navigate between pages.
  2. Search comments: This is used to search through previously annotated comments in this assignment.
  3. Expand/collapse all comments: This is used to either display all comments or close all comments that were previously made in this assignment.
  4. Rotate 90 degrees left/right: These buttons (circle with arrow) allow us to rotate the document in either direction.
  5. Comments: This is used to write notes to students in specific places in their work.
