Assignments can be used for students to easily submit papers, presentations, or any type of file. Using assignments makes it easy for instructors to present the assignment information and to grade the assignment.

Step 1: Creating an Assignment

  1. Turn on Edit Mode, which is a toggle located on the top right of your main course page.
  2. Locate the module in which you want to add the label, and ensure the module is expanded and not collapsed.
  3. Click on Add an activity or resource.
  4. This will bring up a list of all the items you can add to your course. Select the Activities tab at the top of this pop-out.
  5. Select Assignment

Step 2: Setting up the Assignment

  1. In the box called Assignment name, enter the name of the assignment here.
  2. In the box called Description, type in the instructions for the assignment or any other information you need to add.
  3. For the small box called “Display description on course page”, leave that box unchecked.
  4. For the “Additional Files” section, upload any useful documents for students, such as templates they can use to write the assignment.

The next step is to customize the other settings.

Step 3: Adjusting the other Assignment Category settings

Beneath are other settings categories. These are the most important settings to customize:

  1. Availability:
    1. The most important date to set is the due date.
  2. Submission types:
    1. The default settings are correct.
  3. Grade:
    1. For Type: select “points” from the dropdown menu.
    2. For Maximum grade: Enter the number of points in the box
